Worried my birthmark/mole might be cancerous. Anyone had skin cancer?

Postby claud28 » Sat Jan 28, 2012 4:32 am

I have a mole on my arm above my elbow. I have had it since I was born. It is large than a pencil eraser and has a few smaller dark spots in it. It hasn't chance that I can tell but I recently started having some pains in my arm. Not horrible pain just and ache that comes and goes. Im not sure if its all in my head from being freaked out or not. My dog was just diagnosed with skin cancer and it has me thinking about my arm. I made an appointment with a Dermatologist but can't be seen until April. That's 3 months away! I am really freaking out! Has anyone had skin cancer or know if this could be a sign of cancer? It hasn't ever bleed or anything like that and the actual mole doesn't hurt. Any info would help me out, thanks!

I think you're ok.

I had basal cell carcinoma, but I think what you're worried about is melanoma.

If this mole has always been there, and especially since you say it hasn't changed, it's almost certain that your arm pain is due to something else altogether.

It's when moles change - get darker, or the borders change, or enlarge - is when it's time to be concerned.

Don't worry - you're ok, I'm sure! (Hope the dog's ok, too)
