Why can you not put styrofoam in the microwave?

Postby baeddan » Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:53 pm

Okay, this is beginning to piss me off. I've been searching on google for a few hours and have not been able to get any specific information with a detailed explanation as to where the conclusion came from. I want specifics to the following question: What exact health effects happen to one person when they eat food from a Styrofoam bowel that was microwaved?

Here's a good example of a response:
The chemicals added to your system from eating food microwaved in a Styrofoam bowel increase the chances of getting lung cancer by 10%.
Source: [insert website here which explains the experiment procedure to get to the above conclusion.]

The reason I'm being so anal is because everyone says "its bad", well, I won't believe you until you give me facts to support your conclusions. So, give me facts, please and thank you!

styrofoam = polystyrene
Styrene oligomers in polystyrene containers used for food packaging have been found to migrate into the food.
