What's The Amount A Doctor Charges For A Bone Marrow Transplant?

Postby zarad » Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:14 am

What a doctor charges is only a small fraction of the cost of a bone marrow transplant. And there are lots of detail questions about the type of donor, the type of preparative regimen, etc.

The total cost for a transplant is almost always greater than $200,000, and can easily run to three times that, especially if there are any early complications. The fees for the hematologist overseeing the affair will almost always be much less than 10% of the total cost (usually under 5%). Most of the money goes to hospital days, lab tests, blood products, drugs, imaging studies and the like.

Hope this gives you a general framework for thinking about the problem. If the place where he'd be having the transplant has a charitable foundation, you might try contacting them --- this will certainly have come up before, and they may have some more concrete suggestions for you. They may even have some matching funds available.

I wonder if you've tried Rick Simpson Hemp Oil therapy. The oil has high THC, so it is NOT hemp seed oil we get from vitamin stores. You've to move to a state where doctor can prescribe cannabis for your treatment.

Your friend needs to get a written estimate from the doctors/hospital/pharmacy, etc.
This estimate needs to include ALL costs associated, including room charges, blood bank services, lab tests, all medications that can be assumed to be needed while in the hospital, a year of lost wages, a year of someone being able to sit with them 24/7, travel expenses if traveling for the transplant, and all the medications and follow up visits needed for at least a year.

With all of that counted, my transplant cost much more than the figure estimated in the post above.

Jackie this IS a US website.

@ asker you need to call the doctor and ask. There isn?t a set price doctors are self employed and can charge whatever they want.
