What Is Wrong With My Cats?

Postby Seanachan » Sat Oct 07, 2017 9:58 am

My grandmother has 4 inside cats. Several months ago the oldest cat started losing a lot of weight and lots of her hair. Also, she began to develop little scab-like feeling sores along her back bone, top of her head, and hind legs. She also started to stay secluded from all the other cats and family members whereas previously she lounged around in the living room or in my grandmother's lap. Slowly all of the other three cats are doing the same (losing weight, losing hair, not as active, secluded). Also, they are constantly vomiting all over the house.

Today, I was cleaning under a rug and noticed where stains soaked through all over the rug, and the smell of cat urine was very strong. I've caught the youngest cat (and only male) urinating on the floor, clothes, and mail. My grandparent's are getting older, and I'm not home often enough to keep everything clean and in order. My grandmother would be very upset if I even suggested finding the cats homes, and if they are sick and contagious I wouldn't want to get any other cats sick (at a shelter or another home). My grandmother suggested letting them live outside, but we have dogs and my grandfather doesn't think the cats would survive.

My grandfather took the oldest cat to the vet sometime after she began seeming sick, and he told me that the vet said that the cat was suffering from sensitive stomach and allergies. We changed all the food, and removed flea collars. My grandfather still gives them "cat temptations" treats, but I don't think they are the cause.

Basically my question is can you tell me what is going on with my cats? and What can I do to help them get better? and What can I do to stop them from vomiting and urinating outside their litter box?

Get them to a vet! This sounds a lot like feline leukemia!

The signs and symptoms of infection with feline leukemia virus are quite varied and include loss of appetite, poor coat condition, anisocoria (uneven pupils), infections of the skin, bladder and respiratory tract, oral disease, seizures, lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes), skin lesions, fatigue, fever, weight loss, stomatitis, gingivitis, litter box avoidance, pancytopenia, poor grooming, recurring bacterial and viral illnesses, anemia, diarrhea, and jaundice. -Wikipedia

Cats infected with FeLV may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:

Pale gums

Yellow color in the mouth and whites of eyes

Enlarged lymph nodes

Bladder, skin, or upper respiratory infections

Weight loss and/or loss of appetite

Poor coat condition

Progressive weakness and lethargy

Fever

Diarrhea

Breathing difficulty

Reproductive problems like sterility in unspayed female cats -pets.webmd.com
