What is the survival rate for stage 3c colon cancer?

Postby amadeo40 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 1:03 pm

My husband was diagnosed with stage 3c colon cancer in July of this year. He is 30. He has had the entire colon removed and has an ileostomy. Cancer spread through the colon to the abdominal wall, two tumors both in the descending colon, and mets to 6 lymph nodes. I see that the 5 year survival rate is typically 44%, but does that mean that 44% of people live for just 5 years? Or that 44% of people live longer than 5 years. We have 2 toddlers and one more on the way, and I am trying to get a handle on the average time we may have left together. He is on 46 hour cycles every two weeks of adjuvant chemo, 5fu and leucovorin. Any advice from anyone would be helpful. Thank you.

it's 44% are alive after 5 years.

but you have to remember that most people who get colon cancer are old (like 80 old) and the survival rate from them is pretty bad yes, but the survival rate for younger people (and 30 is VERY young for colon cancer) is much MUCH higher! (sorry i don;t know the exact figures)

if he gets the chemo i'm sure he'll be fine :) - it sucks but it's worth it!

all the best and good luck, i can't imagine what it must be like for it to be your partner!

my grandfather is dying of colon cancer

that means that 44% make it to 5 years

if it stays in the colon or in that area, theres chances he can live up to twenty years

if it moves into other areas (especially the lungs), or if chemo causes him to fall ill with some usually simple thing like the flu, it could be shorter

make sure you doctor keeps a lookout on possible spreading so it can be stopped early, and keep him free of disease and he could quite possibly make it past the 5!

my grandfather was given a two year limit, its now year 7 and he only became bedridden in the last two months

There are many cures!!!!!!!!! Garlic girl!

the reason why they are not out there is population control. money! and power from the drug companies! ^_^

you strike me as someone who wants the truth more than not accepting the fact that we are being held back! if you want more links which i guarantee will open your eyes, then you will know the real truth. people who say there is no cure are people who dont have an open mind. that will soon become extinct.

VITAMIN C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even eating canabis! NOT SMOKING! EATING!!!!!!!
