What is the difference between choosing an ablation and a d&c to deal with endometrial hyperplasia?

I just got back the results of my endometrial biopsy and there doesn't appear to be any cancerous cells, but my uterine lining is thickened (about 3 times the normal size it should be) and I am having lots of bleeding. My doctor put me on progesterone, and it has slowed the bleeding alittle but its still pretty bad. I'm just trying to understand all of the options - I DONT want to continue on hormones since both my mom and sister had breast cancer.
