If she is lucky they will remove the kidney and that will be the end of it. Chemo and radiation have no place in early stage kidney cancer.

There is not enough information in the question to give a complete answer, so here is a general overview.
Because kidney cancer is not very sensitive to standard chemotherapy or radiation, the mainstay of therapy is surgical.
At the time of diagnosis, there are really two types of patients: those that are potentially curable (localized disease) and those that are not curable (metastatic disease).
If potentially curable, the cancer should be removed surgically.
If the tumor is relatively small, often just the tumor can be removed, leaving the remainder of the unaffected kidney in place to continue filtering the blood.
This is known as partial nephrectomy, which can be done laparoscopically or robotically (computer-assisted laparoscopic surgery) by some urologists with specialized training.
There are many benefits of leaving in place as much functioning kidney as possible, so partial nephrectomy is the operation of choice.
If the tumor is larger, or if there are no urologists available with the required skill-set, then the entire kidney can be removed in the operation known as radical nephrectomy.
This can also be done laparoscopically (through small incisions with a video telescope and long skinny instruments).
In some situations, such as in elderly patients or those with many other medical problems, the best plan of action may be to use an energy source such as cryoablation to freeze or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to cook and kill the tumor, but leave it in place.

If the cancer has spread beyond the kidney (metastatic cancer), then surgery may be of little benefit.
In this case, an oncologist will likely recommend certain medications that block blood vessel growth such as Sutent or Nexavar, which have been shown to prolong survival.

I hope this helps.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

She will have more tests done to confirm whether she has this or not.
Then, the doctor will refer her to an oncologist if she does have cancer who will plan what treatment is needed.

First and foremost, I hope you have a full recovery and wish you the best with your therapy. You need to speak to your doctors regarding the extent of the cancer. Kidney cancer when caught early is often isolated to a single kidney. Surgeons remove that kidney. If the cancer has not spread (metastasized) then removal of the kidney represents a cure. You would need to be monitored for recurrence, but generally cancer that has not spread outside teh kidney is cured by surgical removal and no follow up chemotherapy is needed. If the cancer has spread (metastasized), surgeons often remove the primary tumor. Removal of this tumor can cause regression of the metastatic tumors. The prognosis of metastatic renal cell cancer is difficult to predict and the chemotherapy depends on your staging and how you are doing. Once again you need to check with your doctors. Finally, the diagnosis is usually made by an imaging study (such as a CT scan or MRI scan). Final confirmation that a patient has cancer is ususally done after the surgery. We do not biopsy (take a piece) of these kidneys using needles because this can spread the kidney cancer locally. There are times where a tumor has the appearance of cancer, but is actually benign. I think it is ALWAYS helpful for children to be supportive of their parents. Even adult children. As a society, we have to remember to honor and care for our parents. It is the only one of the ten commandments that comes with a promise--if we obey it we will have a long life. Even if you don't ascribe to this, it makes ethical sense to help our parents. If they don't volunteer, I think it's okay to ask for support from your children at this time. Best of luck

If the cancer is bad they could remove one of her kidneys

she will have to undergo chemo and probably radition.

she could have kidney transplant too, but not sure about that.
