What Are The Chances Of Surviving Stage 4 Cancer?

Postby Amo » Fri Oct 06, 2017 10:10 am

My mom had colon cancer in 2004 and was in remission until 2011, when it was found that she had appendix cancer that had spread to parts of her ureter and liver. After several months of chemo, she had surgery to remove a section of her liver. Just a couple months later now after being told the cancer was gone, and she has found out there her "numbers" have gone from 9 to 50. I'm not sure what the numbers mean exactly, but she says it means there's still cancer.

What are the realistic chances of recovery at this point. Her and our family are extremely frustrated and also saddened by this, because once things seem to be going better, they get worse.

We don't know where the cancer is at now, but we're worried.

Any statistics anybody can give? Apparently her doctor said "If you ever get cancer again, you'll just be doing chemo." which tells me that if the chemo doesn't work, there's nothing they can do.

It would be very unusual for a doctor to say her cancer is gone, because they know it isn?t. Stage 4 colon cancer/appendicle cancer is not curable. The 5 year survival rate is about 5%.

Treatment is to prolong her life and decrease her symptoms not to cure her. This is why she gets better and worse again. Eventually treatment will not keep the cancer at bay anymore.

Read the book "You can Heal Your Life" from Louise Hay and Save your mom.
