Do EXACTLY what your doctor tells you. Resist the temptation to walk on it NO MATTER WHAT. When you're ready, your doctor will start you on some physical therapy - but don't do anything on it until he gives you the go ahead.Trust me. I learned this the hard way, and I've been paying the price ever since. If you do more damage to the injury, it can be permanent. Your ankles bear the weight of your entire body with every foot strike. Don't mess around with the healing process your doctor has planned for you.   @Goldie 52 months ago

I broke my ankle 6 months ago and it is still not right . This is not to discourage you , but to tell you that every fracture is different and there may be complications or your joint may heal well and quickly. Did you need surgery ? I had a metal plate and six screws - the cast was too tight and then they put a splint that was too tight. I believe that is part of the reason for all the problems . I was using two crutches , then one, now still a cane because I have a pretty bad limp and the joint still seems unstable. 6 weeks of PT -the doctor told me it could take a full 12 months. Every injury is different- better to be laid up a while rather than risk permanent problems. Once you get the go-ahead to exercise it , do it faithfully or it will stiffen up on you easily. Good luck,.   chercat 50 months ago

I'm sorry, but I cannot tell you treatments. This is a question for your doctor. Please do not trust your health to total strangers on the internet! As for your recovery, that depends on how bad the fracture was and how much progress you make when you go to rehab. Your general health - weight, age, and diet, will also play a big part in how fast you recover. Is it a weight bearing cast? If so, I would THINK that you should be up and moving around a little, after ten days. But the botton line is you should call your doctor BEFORE doing anything suggested by anyone here.   TurboB 52 months ago
