Toxins In Fumes From Melted Nomex Webbing?

Postby Ordwin » Sat Sep 23, 2017 6:49 am

I worked at a company for 2 years that worked with the fire resistant material Nomex webbing. It was my job to cut and then melt the frayed ends so they would not split. This caused a lot of smoke to be released and I was never provided a mask and got in trouble when I opened windows. Now there are suggestions that fire retardant material can cause cancer like asbestos does and that there is a link between the two materials.

I'm not sure what your question is. But I should have thought that a fume cupbaord would have been provided if you were creating a lot of smoke.
Aromatic polyamides will release toxic fumes when decomposed.
