Small Exposure To Asbestos, Will It Cause A Disease Later?

Postby Aleekcheaahoosh » Thu Sep 28, 2017 5:36 am

I was outside helping a friend grease the brake shoes on my 1999 Honda CR-V. There was a lot of brake dust, and it was getting blown everywhere as we used an air compressor to blow out the brake drum. I tried not to inhale the dust directly at the time. Having since come home and investigated, I found out that some brake shoes are made of asbestos, and now I'm worried that I have been exposed and it will harm me in the future. Is this exposure enough to worry about? I'm not coughing or anything, and we worked on the car for a couple of hours outside. Thanks!

Asbestos does not impact you until 10-40 years after exposure.
This exposure would be in the very, very, very small range and it is a very unlikely risk.
Can we say it is 100% safe, no.
Also think about riding with your car window down when the car in front puts on brakes.
That is asbestos exposure too from old cars and trucks.
