Should i tell my best friend that i might have cancer...?

Postby spear86 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:24 pm

ive had these birthmarks on my arm my whole life, and i got a bypass when i was really young but i went to the dermotologist today and it was reported that my cells or something are irregular and i have 4 out of the 4 danger signs so im going to a list of plastic surgens, but there is a chance i have cancer i think. my mom thinks its no big deal but im scared. i googled a picture and all of the melanoma moles on google images look like mine. should i tell my friend or keep it to myself?

If yall are really best friends and you trust this person then yes. Go ahead and tell her/him so you will be in their thoughts/prayers.

Hope everything is well. Best wishes

you should tell your friend because that way they will be aware even if its nothing serious. If my best friend knew something like that and didn't tell me I would probably be mad.

My personal opinion is to tell your friend. To me it seems right, especially because you said its your bestfriend. You never know maybe he/she can help you.

Really when you find out more information about if you do if you don't have cancer wait until you are for sure. If you tell them when you don't know it would scare them more then you. If you find out you really do have cancer tell them but if you don't really have cancer don't tell them about this whole mess I know this because I lost 2 uncles from cancer and they waited until they were very sick to tell us. they died 2 years ago though.

The large majority of skin cancers are easily treated. So, in a way, your Mom is right when she says it is no big deal. But cancer is scary & most of us need some extra support to go through something like this. So, if you think your friend will be a help to you and not be a drama queen about it, go ahead & tell her. You don't need someone over reacting & adding to your stress, though. Good luck & I'm glad you're following through to find out for sure what they are.

googling for diagnosis is never a good thing. i could convince myself i had all types of things if i was to do that :) even if it turns out you dont have cancer its still a stressful time for you and if you need someone to talk to or to support you im sure your friend would be happy to be there for you :)

i think you should keep it to yourself until a doctor confirms what it is - believe me i have made a similar mistake and it was confirmed that what i thought i had, wasn't really what i thought and then i had to tell everybody that i had told, it makes you feel like rubbish, your friends dont deserve to think you have something that you might not.
Furthermore subconsciously you may just be seeking attention - looking back on my experience thats what made me do it.
