Need Help? Kidney Cancer?

Postby Corcoran » Tue Jan 27, 2015 8:24 am

My dad was diagnosed with Stage 1 kidney cancer 3 days ago. I've been feeling really put down about it, he's getting his kidney removed in 2 weeks. His tumor is 4cm, and I'm just afraid that the tumor can spread in 2 weeks. The doctor said he doesn't need any radiation, and that he will be fine, but i still worry very easily . It's summer and I haven't been going out of the house cos i feel guilty to leave him. My moms at home with him and my friend invited me over, but i feel too guilty to go? should i feel guilty? And can a tumor spread fast? i just want my dad too be okay and I'm getting really anxious

Finding cancer at stage 1 puts your father in a very favorable situation.
It would certainly be better to have surgery sooner than later, but i assume that the docs have assessed the tumor and found that it does not have a risk of spreading in the next 2 weeks.
Cancer can stay at stage 1 for many years.
Even if cancer went from stage 1 to stage 2, surgery would still remove all the cancer.
As far as cancer goes, you dad is in the best situation possible.
There is always a small risk that things can get worse, but its a very small risk.
You don't need to feel guilty about anything.
Staying at home isn't going to help your dad and going out isn't going to hurt him either.

Thank you for your kind words on my question ( about my friend having cancer ) but to answer your question : that's how I feel about my situation I'm in. Just pray and have faith that everything will be okay , your father wouldn't want you staying in the house all day. Live your life . Cause it's very short and can end at any moment .

I know it'a alot to worry about. But trust me when I say the doctors know what they're doing, and they know what they're talking about. It will all be okay. I don't think a tumour would spread that much in 2 weeks. Good luck xo

First off, so sorry to hear that your Dad was diagnosed with cancer :( Hopefully everything will be alright again for you and your loved ones :)

Listen to the doctor, he knows what to do and what he is doing. Worrying will stress you out and may stress your father out too! Its not good to stress and worry about it cause its not good for you and it may put down your father who may worry more about his cancer.

Your friend should be more considerate about inviting you over though she might be trying to cheer you up and get your mind off things. if you don't want to go, tell her "maybe some other time :)" you shouldn't feel guilty to go though! it would be good for you to get out of the house for a while and get your mind off things!

Tumors don't usually spread fast, especially since he is just in stage 1 of the process :) Usually conditions he is living in, genetics, diet and all that play a role in the rate of spreading, but it is doubtful that kidney tumors spread fast, especially in 2 weeks time.

Let the doctor do his job, he/ she is doing the best for your Dad :)

Good luck!
