Lung Cancer/stroke Survival Rate?

Postby Chico » Tue Oct 03, 2017 3:07 pm

A close friend's father has lung cancer.
He had half a lung removed before Christmas and a few days ago, the clotting blood broke loose and he had a stroke.
He's been on life support for a few days now, and they haven't been able to get a response from him.
I need to know: what are his chances of surviving, and if he does, how long might he live afterwards?

Lung Cancer/stroke Survival Rate?

I am sorry to hear that. I just lost my aunt (60+) to lung cancer in May. She was diagnosed last year, went through some chemo, got better, and then was told it was inoperable in March and had a month to live. The point of this story-- she stayed with us well over a month. The doctors aren't always right, it is just a matter of time, but I will tell you the survival rate is slim. I make a point to tell any loved ones that smoking is not good for you-- it really does have harmful consequences. I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers, I know how difficult it is.

I can't give you a positive answer. I would ask his doctor.

This is a specific scenario, so it would be impossible to give you any accurate survival statistics.
So I will give you some general survival rates, but you must understand that these statistics play little to no role with the said circumstances.

73% of individuals diagnosed with lung cancer survive

10% of individuals who suffer from strokes recover almost completely

15% of individuals who suffer from strokes die shortly after
