Lump on my dog's stomach?

Postby jago51 » Thu Jan 26, 2012 3:16 am

He's about 1 year old, a miniature schnauzer, salt and pepper coloring. I noticed a marble sized lump on his stomach while petting him. There's no irritation around it. We are taking him to the vet very soon, but I'm worried! Until then do you think it's cancer or a tumor or something?

We cannot know because we can't see it. Be sure to take him to a vet very soon. I wouldn't think it is cancer because he is still very young. Good luck!!

how fun...are we supposed to play the guessing game...

it can be as insignificant as a zit/skin irritation to a deadly cancerous tumor....do you want me to pick one>?

Don't panic. It could just be a fatty tumor - benign and common. If he's eating, drinking, and happy then don't worry until you've seen the vet. :)

It is most likely a hernia. If it's right in the midline, below his rib cage, it is probably an umbilical hernia. Small ones can come and go and are usually repaired when the dog is anesthetized or neutering/spaying. If a loop of bowel becomes trapped in a hernia, it is life-threatening. There is a genetic susceptibility to hernias so dos which have them should not be bred.

It could be an number of things. Don't stress if you are taking him to the vet, cause you will worry yourself up. Let them run the test on it.
