Is This Colon Cancer?

Postby Mike » Sat Sep 30, 2017 1:16 am

My uncle was hospitalized due to diabetes compliciations resulting in the amputation of one of his feet. However, he is in rehab (learning how to walk again, etc) and is experiencing extreme weight loss and diarrhea so bad that he often has accidents. He lost 14 pounds last week, as of this week (reported yesterday) lost 16 pounds and today we got a phone call saying he lost 3 more pounds since yesterday (overnight). As for the diarrhea he is no where near the age to have accidents, and he's 61 and probably has never been screened for colon cancer. Also, the diarrhea has been going on for weeks!! Does anyone agree with the idea that this is colon cancer or do any of you have an idea of what this could be?

Sounds like he caught a bug in the hospital or rehab.
Is the Dr testing his stools?

You don?t even mention his age.

I?m sure rehab has contacted his doctor and are running the appropriate tests.

If he is over 50 he should be screened for colon cancer if he does not have it now.
If you wait for symptoms it could be too late.

Just because your uncle has severe diarrhea doesn't mean he has colon cancer. Diarrhea could be caused by many different things.
But if what he is excreting out is bloody, then he should definitely get a screening.
Even if he has bloody stools, it could still be something else. The only way to find out if he has colon cancer is a screening and they see polyps forming along the walls of his colon.

He should do this, if anything, for the sake of relieving the stress over it.
