Is Psa Level For Prostate Only?

Postby Hyun-Ki » Thu May 12, 2016 9:10 pm

Hi Dr Sarma,

I have a blood test with PSA level of 1.7. I read a book of prostate. It said PSA 0-4 is normal, 5-10 tumor, and >10 cancer. Could you inform me on whether that saying is true beyond prostate, e.g. also for kidney, colon,...? Specifically, my PSA now is 1.7, could I still have kidney tumor?

Thanks a lot for your help.

PSA(Prostate Specific Angiten) is for Prostate and not for other spots like the Kidneys. A value of 1.7 by itself is not diagnostic of cancer. You will follow with your urologist and he or she will probably do an ultrasound and take biopsies, if there is any suspicion of cancer.

with best wishes,
