Hypothyroidism... Help?

Postby Kienan » Sun Apr 16, 2017 9:32 pm

I'm 14, and for the past year ( a little bit over a year ) I have had VERY bad hair loss.

it's so bad that I feel like I have no hair anymore.

thyroid issues run in the family.. my mom had thyroid cancer and many problems, grandma too, and great grandma.

so, I think I may have the whole problem with it too. I know hair loss is one of the issues. I'm always telling my mom I think I have a thyroid problem and she tells me I need a haircut and should stop worrying about the hairloss. but this has been happening for over a year, and I think a haircut is not a solution.

what should I do?! please help!!

Hypothyroidism... Help?

I am hypothyroid and loose a lot of hair, but I also have a number of the other symptoms such as fatigue. This is a good link. Read up on it and do your research.

Check out www.mayoclinic.com/health/hypothyroidism...

If you still really feel you have symptoms, then take it up with your mom in an educated manner and insist on seeing the doctor. Since this can be a hereditary condition you have some reason for concern.

On another note, if you have longer hair, you notice loss a lot more. Dry splitting hair can look like loss. Get a small hair cut to keep it health then your mom can't use this argument.

Hypothyroidism... Help?

You need testing for thyroid ANTIBODIES as well as TSH.
TSH ?norm? should be .3 ? 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but, for diagnosis, would not matter if ANTIBODIES are present. Indicative of Hashimoto?s Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between hyper & hypo at start)?main cause of HypOthyroid & is worse (...OR Graves Disease - HypERthyroid).

WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease.
You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment.
Best wishes.
