How To Keep Colon Clean And Maintain Colon Movement After Colon Cancer?

Postby Aldred » Thu May 08, 2014 7:34 am

I am female, 26 year old. I had colon cancer stage 2.had surgery to remove half of my colon already. Now i am having 5fu chemo 3/6 rounds.still half way to go. But sofar i have problem passing stools sometimes.i make me worried so much. Now i am living in fear of a recurrence. Since iam still too young, it becomes a very scary picture for me. I am researching about how to keep colon clean and maintain colon movement. Is there any advice? How should i increase fiber intake? Should i take fiber suplement or using colon cleasing product?

And more important, how to maintain it. Since i am still working and whenever i travel, i have problem with passing stool.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Kasumi,

I had my last chemo tx in June 2012. I have a history of constipation. During my chemo tx I took stool softners and that helped as well as drinking lots of fluids. Now i have increased my fiber intake and this has helped. I have 4 plus bowl movements a day. I also take wheat grass with juice every night before bed. My onocologist did advise me not to take wheat grass during my chemo tx. Also no vitamin C during chemo tx. I have no neuropathy now but did have neuropathy during my chemo tx. My onocologist had me on a cocktail which consisted of vit b1, vit b6, and l-glutamine powder. I am followed at MD Anderson Cancer ctr every 6 months for ct scans. So far ct scans have been good.
