How long can a dog live without food?

Postby chonen » Mon Nov 07, 2011 4:21 am

My dog hasn't been eating anything for the last week almost and we've tried to give him everything, even French toast because he loves it, but he won't eat anything. He only drinks water and then he goes outside and pukes. He also doesn't spend any time with us anymore and is trying to separate from us. The vet thinks he might have pancreatic cancer. We think he is going to starve before the results even come back. Can anyone answer this for me please?

A dog could go about two weeks without eating.

But, if he doesn't after that take him to the vet.

Same as a human; about 30 days if it has access to water; 3 days if it does not.

Call your vet back and ask how to syringe food and water into the dog via his mouth. Every pet owner needs to know how to do this. I'm very surprised your vet hasn't gone over this with you.
