How do I tell if a mole is cancerous?

Postby thorne » Thu May 17, 2012 3:32 am

I have a mole on my left shoulder blade. It is a darker medium brown color and it about 2-3 mm in diameter. All around the mole, about 3 inches in every direction, the skin feels slightly numb. The skin looks completely normal. I know the whole ABC's of cancer, so if you have any other insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not to be a smart alack, but you would need to go to dermatologist to have that looked at.

Even if there were a doctor here on Y!A, they would say the same thing.

You might know the ABC's of cancer, but you're stupid enough to be asking that question here instead of speaking to your doctor.

There's no way to tell you over the internet if a mole is cancerous. Even if you went to a dermatologist, he or she wouldn't be able to look at it and tell you if it's cancerous. The only definitive way to tell if something is cancerous is to biopsy it. If it doesn't seem to be cancerous following the ABC's of moles, I'd relax. If it does, go get it biopsied.
