How Do I Get The Pain Medication I Need?

Postby Eadwyn » Fri Oct 06, 2017 5:16 pm

I have been left with constant mild to severe pain from damage/adhesions that are the result of a couple of surgeries I had to have due to a pancreatic tumor(not cancer).
I usually can make it through most days with Ultram and ibuprofen.
There are probably three occasions a week where these medications are not nearly enough and probably one or two times a month that I would really like to go to the ER.
I just wait it out and suffer.
I don't get to do all the things I want and need to do sometimes.

All I want is a couple of Vicodin to be used as needed.
I've used them responsibly in the past in my post-operative periods.
My surgeon wants to do more surgery, he's gone in twice to clean up my scar tissue, the pain returns within 4-5 months.
He said go to my PCP.
My PCP says she doesn't prescribe narcotics and sends me to a pain clinic.
The pain clinic sends me to physical therapy, occupational therapy, a health psychologist and puts me on Ultram.
I make an honest effort at all of it, 2 months of physical therapy, 1 of occupational therapy and a couple of visits with the health psychologist and random drug screens.
It isn't any better, in fact all the extra activity makes it that much worse.
I tell the pain clinic it's worse, they prescribe a muscle relaxer.
I try it even though it doesn't make much sense to me why it would work on my non-muscular pain.
It doesn't do anything but make my muscles so relaxed that my body feels like dead weight.
I finally gather the courage to ask for Vicodin and I'm told that I'm too young and that they don't prescribe as needed narcotics. They suggest I go to my primary and have them write a script and follow me.

What do I need to do? Do I need to start playing the part of a manipulative drug-seeker? I work in a hospital so I know how they operate.
I jumped through all the hoops and exercised patience and really tried to make things work out the way the pain clinic wanted but all it has left me with is a $2,000+ bill for physical therapy.
My stomach is a wreck from all the ibuprofen, I've had a couple boughts of gastritis and I've actually thrown up blood a few times.

What do I do? What do I say? I'm truly EMBARRASSED having to ask.
I'm sick of being in pain and not being able to do the things I want and need to do.
I brought my own grandmother to tears because I was squirming around in my chair so much during a visit.
I kept reassuring her I was okay, but she was so upset that I was in pain.
I just want this to stop!

You are without doubt now not a nasty character for taking agony cure. Sometimes it is fairly essential. Have I honestly had anything as opposed to cure heal the agony? Yes. Just final week I had a nasty migraine brewing as our neighborhood choir train began. As I sang the lovely, intricate tune of the Messiah and the baroque tune in German we had been running on, the agony completely went away and stayed away. Whether it was once the diversion or the tune itself I do not know for precise. I simply realize it labored. I am equipped to "believe away" a few agony as good, generally extra minor agony. I've determined that strain factor therapeutic massage medication has healed so much muscle agony I've had. I've additionally had potent studies with prayer treatment the agony - and the ailment or damage that induced the agony. For a few varieties warmth takes it away at the same time for different kinds ice packs paintings higher. I have additionally had regularly while the one factor that might deal with it was once cure. Do what works for you, and what you suppose cozy utilizing and do not fear approximately what any individual else says. That's among you and your general practitioner.

I am really sorry about what you are going through. Doctors are reluctant to give the pain medication that people need. Some people are great actors and just want to get high.
I have a suggestion for you that is not prescription.
Have you heard of MSM? It is a sulfur compound that can help alleviate pain and can help scar tissue heal, or prevent scar tissue from forming.
MSM is not very expensive.
If you are interested in a buying, I know a good place to buy it. I have used it myself and for my elderly pets. It also helps your stomach to heal.

Can the pain clinic provide acupuncture? It works really well.
I have chronic pain, but narcotics do not help me.
I hope you find what you need.
Doctors seem to be protecting themselves by not caring for people in pain.

Your problem is all too common.

Zanaflex is used for:

Treating muscle spasms. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Zanaflex is a skeletal muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerves that stimulate muscles to contract.

Do NOT use Zanaflex if:

? you are allergic to any ingredient in Zanaflex

? you are taking ciprofloxacin or fluvoxamine

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Zanaflex:

Some medical conditions may interact with Zanaflex. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

? if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

? if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

? if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

? if you have liver or kidney problems or low blood pressure

? if you are taking medicine to treat high blood pressure

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Zanaflex. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

? Acyclovir, antiarrhythmics (eg, amiodarone, mexiletine, propafenone), cimetidine, famotidine, fluvoxamine, hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), ticlopidine, verapamil, zileuton, or medicines used to treat high blood pressure because they may increase the risk of Zanaflex's side effects

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Zanaflex may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
