My latest hospital department hands you your file to give the doctor. I took my usual side trip into the wash room and read the reports.

Usually they will visit the doctor with some kind of symptoms. The doctor will then arrange for tests to be done to find out what is wrong, and will come up with a diagnosis of cancer. In some cases, once cancer is suspected a biopsy may be ordered to confirm.

Once the doctor believes the patient has cancer, they will inform the patient of the diagnosis, and discuss options for treatment and management, and any other issues that may be present.

Often it is found in the ER as an "accident" when a chest x-ray or CT scan is ordered for other diagnostic reasons. That's how mine was found--on a chest x-ray.
Often people will go in with pain symptoms as is the case in many osteosarcomas (bone cancers). It varies along with the over 200 different types of cancer diseases.

Contrary to popular belief it won't be discovered on this site. My cancer was found on a routine blood test.
