Help Me Interpret Cancer Report?

Postby Beolagh » Thu Jan 29, 2015 11:45 am

Findings: normal bio distribution seen within the salivary glands, bladder, and stomach. No abnormal uptake noted.
Impression No i-31 evidence for recurrent or residual thyroid carcinoma. No activity seen in the neck to suggest residual thyroid carcinoma or thyroid tissue. Normal biodistribution is seen of the i-131.
Can someone please tell me if this is good news??? Thank u!

Yes, it is excellent news.
It is most conclusive and definite about the absence of thyroid tissue, in my opinion.

Presumably (I'm guessing), you had thyroid carcinoma treated by surgery and radio-iodine or radiotherapy.

It leaves the tiny possibility of remaining but non-functioning, thyroid carcinoma, in my humble opinion.
That's why it is phrased as "no iodine 131" evidence, - it means that no tissue is seen *which possesses thyroid hormone production.* Usually a thyroid carcinoma retains the ability to create thyroid hormones, not to labour the point.

I hope this is of some help.

Best wishes,
