Dry scaly rash on Areola and nipple?

Postby hurlbart » Sun May 05, 2013 8:26 pm

About 3 weeks ago I developed a painful hot rash on my left breast. It started off itchy and red but 3 days later it turned dark and looked like a bruise. I tried cocoa butter, vitamin e oil, hydrocortisone cream, Benadryl, everything possible for a rash but nothing. My OB sent me to a breast specialist and she put me on strong anti biotics and told me to see her in a week. The anti biotics have did nothing and the rash looks worse. Now it has spread to my areola and nipple and is raised and scaly and is also accompanied by a white/clear nipple discharge. Is this something I should be worried about or am I worried over nothing? Thanks for the help :-)

You need to go back to the doctor and have them look again. If you have not been nursing a baby recently, this could be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer. It also could be a serious yeast infection in the breast. have you been allowing air to get to the nipple as in not wearing a bra when you don't need to? it has gone on long enough and you really need to have this investigated more thoroughly. Don't delay.
