Does having dark circles under your eyes mean you have cancer or are sick?

Postby stephanos6 » Sun Aug 14, 2011 10:57 am

Lately people have been saying I look tired. And I am getting it from all types from family, friends to even strangers on the bus. I have always been so up and alive and motivated. Could it be beginning of I am getting older? Could it be a sign of a woman's type cancer like ovarian or breast or some other cancer deveoping ... in the morning I feel the worst of all! Here are symptoms: Slight wheezing in windpipe, stomach slightly upset, slight low grade nausea, fatigued, annoyed and going a lot of #2 in a.m. like 4 times, but it looks okay, no blood. Is there anything I can do about dark circles under eyes or my symptoms? I am a 47 year old female writing on my husband's email. Please answer honestly and let me know!

Hi, the slight wheeze you mentioned could certainly be due to dust. The other symptoms ... personally I'd say (I'm no medical professional!) it sounds like IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome. That's extremely common and not serious. It's more common in women and sometimes runs in families. IBS can be worsened by lactose intolerance ... which is simply that you can't properly digest lactose which is found in cows milk. Cows milk could also cause the slight wheeze you get as it increases mucus in the body. You could either try cutting dairy out of your diet for a short time (make sure you're still getting some sort of calcium though) and see if it helps or you could buy lactase enzyme in the chemists and add it to your dairy food. That's the enzyme that lactose-intolerant people don't have.

The fatigue and being annoyed sound like you're simply either not getting enough sleep or not getting a good quality of sleep. If it's really bad and causing you to fall asleep during the day, you should see a doctor about it because it could be sleep apnoea but this can be easily diagnosed and treated.

Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by a number of things ... some people are simply more prone to get them and they can darken with age (because the skin gets thinner) but sometimes they can be a sign of any of the following: poor sleep, anaemia, thyroid problems, allergies ... reflexology suggests that they may signify a slight problem in the kidneys. Dark circles usually don't signify anything serious.

By the way, if you smoke then this is likely to be the cause of the majority of your symptoms.

With those symtoms it is hard to say what may be wrong with you. A simple blood count would help your doctor make a diagnosis. It could be anemia, or it could be the beginning of menopause...There are many things it could be. I hope you go to a doctor so you begin to feel better real soon.

maybe you are just tired and or stressed and need to get some exercise, go hiking. The dust is probably what is causing you to wheeze and everything else could be stress/exhaustion related. I would still go and get a check up from the doctor though.
