Do Doctors Do Pap Smears For Yeast Infections?

Postby Keene » Thu Oct 05, 2017 11:14 pm

My mom is afraid the doctor will do a pap smear, so she won't take me to the doctor for a possible yeast infection- which is stupid if you ask me.

When my aunt was younger, she had a pap smear done. The gynecologist or doctor ended up doing something extremely wrong while doing this and now she's unable to have babies.

Well I think I've been having a possible yeast infection for MONTHS, I think since January. I didn't get around to telling my mom until a week or two ago because I was afraid to tell her. First she made the excuse that she'd take me, and now she keeps putting it off. My grandma and she keep making up excuses that I could "have a kidney infection" or "I'm not drinking enough water or rinsing soap away good enough". I told my mom that if she's not going to take me to the doctor at least get me some yeast infection cream, but all she does is make excuses.

She gives every excuse under the moon about the completely obvious signs I've given her (change in discharge, itchiness once in a while, small odor) but she can't take me to the doctor because she's so afraid he/she will mess me up like my aunt. If I'm not afraid, then she shouldn't be, and it's making me more and more upset by the day because I'm ready to get this over with and she's acting really immature about something serious. I'm going to scream if I have to deal with this anymore.

My question is: do doctors really HAVE to do pap smears to find out if I have a yeast infection or not?

No, pap smear is just for screening for possible cervical cancer. They don't usually start doing them until you become sexually active or turn 21.

Millions of them are performed daily, and there are few problems with them. You do not have to have one done, but they do save lives.

Kidney infection is much worse that a yeast infection! The doctor will likely only ask your symptoms to diagnose a yeast infection. They may want to take a sample for culture, but it is likely they will just have you start start treating for a yeast infection based on your description. The treatments for it are very safe, and many women use them too.
