Could I Have Kidney Cancer?

Postby Harac » Mon Mar 16, 2015 11:51 am

I'm 18, and went in to the doctors earlier today for kidney stones. My back has been hurting and they said there was quite a bit of blood in my urine. They're testing my urine at a lab, but sent me home with antibiotics. I heard the doctor say something about my Ph looking fine & leukocytes being normal.

I am a nurse for Baylor. Don't worry, it sounds like an infection/maybe kidney stones, but not cancer.

Does renal cancer run in your family?

Most commonly if nobody in your family has ever had this type of cancer, you should be safe. Try to drink lots of water, it helps clear out the infection and cranberry juice help rehydrate you kidneys. Do Not drink anything that has citrus.. ie grapefruit, orange, lemon aide, limeaid as this will irratate and cause you to have more pain. Try to relax, stress makes everything worse and you want to relax in case you have kidney stones, they will pass easier that way.

Good Luck!!

Kidney cancer at your age is not common only 1.5% occur in people under 20 and they are not often hereditary. You do not have typically symptoms of kidney cancer or kidney stones. It sounds like a bladder infection. What did the doctor tell you it was? If you do not see improvement in a week go back to the doctor. If you do have kidney stones you don?t want to pass them especially if you are male. It can be very painful.
