Cervical cancer jab help and advice?

Postby wuyi » Fri Jan 20, 2012 11:01 am

ok, so is the cervical cancer jab the same as the HPV vaccine? i've looked on google and they seem to be referring to them as the same thing.
I had the cervical cancer jab a couple years back, but think i came into contact with someone who has the HPV virus, i'm going to get checked out, but would like some advice first.
from having this cervical cancer jab, am i protected against the HPV virus and genital warts? I know there is still the possibility of contracting them even with the vaccine, but want to know if the jab helps protect against the HPV virus as well as cervical cancer.
thanks, it'd be very appreciated :)

Cervical cancer jab help and advice?

The HPV vaccine (Gardasil) protects against four strains (6,11,16,and 18) of HPV that cause 70% of cervical cancer and 90% of genital warts cases. If you came in contact with another strain, and there are dozens, you aren't protected; and as you said, the vaccine isn't 100%.

Almost all cervical cancer cases are caused by the HPV virus, so the terms are generally synonymous.
