Can I Switch Back To Insulin?

Postby Albaric » Tue Aug 29, 2017 1:29 am

I'm a long time type 2 diabetic. About a year ago my MD and I decided to try Byetta in lieu of Novalin R, but with Novalin N. I had some nausea issues but it did help me to lose 20 lbs and kept my A1C in an acceptable range. Recent TV ads disclosing links between Byetta and pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer caused my family to pressure me to stop taking Byetta; to return to Novalin R. I changed back to the insulin last week. Now my glucose test readings are never below 160 and usually over 200. Sometimes near 300. Question, (finally), is there an adjustment time I should expect? Will my numbers eventually return to reasonable readings? Or am I destined to go back to Byetta? Thank you for your time on this lengthy dialog.

You should expect that you and your doctor will be able to change your doses of insulin so that your diabetes will be manageble without Byetta.

Are you continuing to take the Novolin N in addition to the Novolin R?

I've got a suggestion.
Mention to your doctor what blood glucose levels you've been getting and ask him/her to review your insulin doses.
