Asbestos!!! What Am I Going To Do About This?

Postby Addolgar » Tue Oct 10, 2017 1:51 am

My mom moved into a 100 year old home whenever I was five. Without knowing Asbestos even existed she sanded ALL of our wood floors, but my mom, sister and I stayed at her boyfriends house for three days. Is that enough exposure to asbestus to give me or my family lung cancer in 15-40 years? Because if so I might be dead by the time I'm 19...is there ANY way to stop it before it gives us cancer? My mom also recently tore down a wall (really dumb idea) and I told her to get someone to clean it up but she's denying that she even has asbestos! She said someone took the walls away but all she did was mop up the area and open the windows. I'm at my dads right now and I don't want to go back to my moms if I'm gonna get even MORE exposed...ahhh i dunno what to do!

Wood floors will not have asbestos 100 year old walls are very unlikely to have it.
So, bottom line, there may be no asbestos exposure in your life at all other than what comes naturally.
Even if the house did have some asbestos, your exposure has been very minimal unless there is more to the story.
It sounds like you are getting some very bad information and advice from somewhere.
Your chances of getting cancer filling up your car with gas is greater than what you have described here.

What makes you think that you've been exposed to asbestos at all?

Wood floors don't have asbestos in them. Sanding them would not release asbestos. Home construction 100 years ago didn't use asbestos very much either. The only places where you *might* find it is in chimney and heater exhaust insulation.
