A New Bedtime Story For Children?

Postby hurlbart » Wed Oct 04, 2017 2:57 pm

Once upon a time, there was a man named Galileo Galilei. He was called the Father or Modern Astronomy. According to Psalm 93:1, 96:10, and 1 Chronicles 16:30 include text stating that "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved." Also Psalm 104:5 says, "the Lord set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." Further, Ecclesiastes 1:5 states that "And the sun rises and sets and returns to its place" etc.

But Mr. Galileo would not believe this nonsense. So one day, he stated that the Earth was not the center of the Universe, and that it revolved around a Sun. The church then issued a Congregation of the Index, declaring that the ideas that the Sun stood still and that the Earth moved were "false" and "altogether contrary to Holy Scripture". Mr. Galileo was ordered to cease his studies or be placed at the mercy of the Church. And so for years he did not publicly pursue his endeavor.

Years later, he was ordered to go to Rome to face an Inquisition. During his trial he defended his stance that he had not publicly pursued his findings, but unfortunately the Church had a copy of his book , "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems", which published all of his findings. Mr. Galileo was unable to defend himself against this evidence, and for this heresy, the Pope sentenced him to house arrest for the remainder of his days.

The Pope ordered Mr. Galileo to read the Bible once a week. Eventually, after years of ailment, Mr. Galileo went blind. Mr. Galileo died at the age of 77 after 10 years of house arrest, placed there by the Pope, his former best friend. The end.
